This campaign will only succeed if our community stands together.
We've done the hard work by preparing the petition—now we need your help to get it into the community. Simply print a copy, take it to your workplace, sporting club, local business, community group, or anywhere people gather, and collect as many signatures as you can.
Every signature sends a powerful message to Parliament that the people of South Australia want to see a permanent ban on fracking in the Limestone Coast.
The Limestone Coast is too important to risk. Together, we can protect our water, our farms, our food, our jobs and our future.

BACKGROUND
The Purpose of this petition is: To get a permanent ban on fracking the Limestone Coast
PRACTICAL INFO
1. We need at least 10,000 signatures.
2. 10, 000 signatures is the magic number because 10,000 signatures will automatically triggera mandatory referral to a Parliamentary Committee for investigation. This committee is required to consider our request for a ban, investigate it, and report back to both Houses of Parliament.
3. Only paper petitions with original signatures are tabled in Parliament.
4. Online petitions are useful for a lot of reasons but if you or someone you know has already signed an online petition, then this paper petition needs to be signed as well. Online petitions cannot be tabled in Parliament.
5. There is room for 20 signatures on each page of our petition. So we need at least 500 pages (one ream of paper) signed. (500 x20 = 10,000 signatures)
6. Put unsigned pages of the petition anywhere you feel comfy and have permission to do so. This could be your local café, the bar at your sports club, at workplaces and schools. Make sure you ask for permission to leave the petition at these places and make arrangements to collect the signed pages so they don’t get lost.
7. Completed signed pages of the petition need to be posted to C/o POB 98 Penola 5271 and this address is on the bottom of each page of the petition.
8. You can email us to let us know where you have distributed pages of the petition and if you need more pages: protectlimestonecoast@gmail.com . This will help us with organisation and getting back the signed sheets. (Our email address is also at the bottom of each page of the petition).
9. Please share the petition with your family and friends in Adelaide- we want the government to see postcodes on the petition from all over SA, as well as the Limestone Coast.
10. You do not need to be over 18 yo to sign a petition.
Evidence about the 2024 Cooper Basin Incident:
The evidence in relation to the Cooper Basin referred to in the petition is in the Department for
Energy and Mining 2024 report located here at pages 38-45 especially page 43 and 44:

In summary, the Cooper Basin is in the far north east of South Australia. In 2024, floods caused two containment ponds filled with water and toxic chemicals that had been used for fracking to overflow. The Department for Energy and Mining was satisfied that the company (SANTOS) took immediate and appropriate steps to clean up the spillage.
A similar spillage in the Limestone Coast would be disasterous.
